QA Specialist, IT - Commercial, Web at Hawaiian Airlines (Phoenix, AZ)

Position Overview

Members of the Hawaiian Airlines Quality Assurance Team at our new Phoenix Technology Center is responsible for ensuring the quality of the products the IT Department delivers. QA works closely with all applications, common services/middleware, and infrastructure teams throughout the development/engineering lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to overall business results by making recommendations that significantly improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Create supporting documentation and administrative reports (e.g., work orders, timesheets, and status reports) to facilitate the proper monitoring and control of project progress
  • Following functional testing planning activities, with minimal level of supervision: test strategy, costing, budget, timeline, resourcing, scheduling, distribution of work, distribution of new and regression test packages, and/or sign-off, to ensure an effective and efficient testing approach
  • Facilitate the analysis, design and programming of viable solutions to business problems according to user specifications
  • Develop or approve detail program specifications
  • For technical leads, contribute to technical design, decision-making, and tactical planning at the enterprise level
  • Ensure that systems are functionally appropriate, technically sound and integrated
  • Document and create test cases and to execute and verify those test cases as part of the overall functional testing of Information Technology products
  • Participate in the activities to develop and execute test to validate system functionality against specifications
  • Ensure that systems software is thoroughly tested
  • Responsible for immediate response to production program problems and/or escalations as required
  • Work with Business, support or development teams in recommending process or system enhancements
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of professional work experience and education
  • 3 years of quality assurance software engineering
  • Completed at least 3 full product release cycles
  • Demonstrate experience in the following areas or technologies
    • C#, C++, or Java
    • Object oriented design and service-oriented architecture
    • High-level and implementation design
    • Working with agile methodologies.
    • Selenium, Ready API SOASTA, or other automated testing tools.
    • Azure, AWS, or Rackspace
  • Undertaking/completion of internal Quality Assurance Analyst Accreditation Program Level 2, or industry equivalent (e.g., American Society for Quality [ASQ] and Quality Assurance Institute [QAI])
  • Ability to deal with organizational issues of medium to high complexity and make appropriate decisions/trade-offs as required
  • Generate test plans, procedures, and work instructions from requirements
  • Setup and configure test setups, fixtures, and instrumentation as required by the test plans and or test standards
  • Implement and deploy test fixtures, testing apparatus and machines and verify their appropriateness
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of data results through thorough documentation processes
  • Oversee several test projects simultaneously and provide scheduling support to operations
  • Design test fixtures as required per customer requirements, test plan, and test standards
  • Validate test methods
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Execution of tests in accordance with the quality system
  • Possess a solid understanding of SDLC and testing concepts, metrics analysis, methodologies and documentation standards
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of supported platforms, operating systems, middleware, network components, and line of businesses and processes
  • Possess solid analytical skills for complex problem solving
  • Exhibit solid communication skills, both written and verbal


Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) certification preferred
  • Experience with any of Selenuim, ReadyAPI, CloudTest, eMpulse, PowerShell
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and cloud services
  • 1+ years programming experience in Java, C#, or equivalent
  • Airline industry experience
  • Experience working in Agile development environment.
  • Masters degree in Computer Science
  • Solid knowledge of the Microsoft technology stack
  • Knowledge of any of nServiceBus, MuleSoft, SiteCore, TFS, PowerShell, SQL, NoSQL, Active Directory


Professional Skill Qualifications

  • Ability to deal with organizational issues of medium to high complexity and make appropriate decisions/trade-offs as required
  • Develop cost analysis estimates
