Senior Software Engineer, Social Safety (Back End)
Location: San Diego, CA (Rancho Bernardo)
The Senior Software Engineer role will help architect, design and develop real-time, cloud-based services that will take the social experience on the PlayStation Network to the next level. The ideal candidate is someone skilled in Java development with experience in web application development, full life-cycle application development and systems integration. They will work with peers on the development of large-scale systems that support PlayStations social experiences. Applicants should expect to spend most of their time coding, creating and building the designs and architecture.
Responsibilities

• Design, implement, ship and maintain highly visible consumer-facing features

• Design and develop real time, efficient and highly scalable APIs for the entire PlayStation Network portfolio;

• Produce thorough design and development documentation

• Work with limited supervision under tight time constraints and changing requirements

• Lead junior team members and have a strong sense of end to end ownership

• Adhere to key principles: Code and design for best performance, scalability and resiliency

• Tackle big data issues with cutting-edge open source technologies

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field; 6+ years of coding experience in Java and experience with REST services

• Experience in building in high performance and cloud-based scalable web services in AWS

• Strong relational and NoSQL experience like Cassandra, Couch Base data-bases

• Strong foundation in CS with an emphasis in data structures, software design and cloud design

• Ability to do technical deep dives into code, deployments and architecture, yet verbally and cognitively adept to be able to hold a discussion with various stakeholder

• Able to handle periodic on-call duty, and defensive engineering to minimize impact

• Well versed in SCRUM/Agile methodologies

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

Helpful But Not Required

• Search, Machine Learning, Online Gaming domains;

• Experience working with Spark, Hadoop, or any real-time stream analysis platform a plus

• Knowledge of DevOps practices, containerization, Docker/Kubernetes
