User Experience Designer at Solium (Calgary, AB, Canada)

At Solium, we’re simplifying the complexities of equity plan management for our customers, and changing the way employees engage with their equity compensation to get the most from their company-granted stock options and purchase plans. Come and work with the User Experience team to make Shareworks, our industry-leading equity management SaaS platform, even better.

About Solium

Solium Capital Inc. is fulfilling a vision of becoming the global leader in equity-based (stock) incentive and share purchase savings plan management. We specialize in the delivery of complete web-based services for the full lifecycle of equity-based incentive and savings plans. Through our technically advanced Shareworks™ platform, Solium is setting the industry's service standard for the administration and execution of all types of equity-based incentives and savings plans.

Who are you?

You’re an established User Experience practitioner who’s constantly putting the user first. You’ve shipped real software products. Like us, you see UX comprised of Research, Design and Evaluation, and have performed usability test facilitation, sketching, ideation, prototyping, and plenty of asking “why?”. You’ve got an eye for detail, adore consistency, and fundamentally want users to have a better life. You have read The Design of Everyday Things and nodded furiously throughout.

We’re looking for a well-rounded UX generalist - just like the rest of the Solium UX team. There will be opportunities to specialize in the future, should you wish.

Specifically:

• 5 years of experience as a UX designer
• Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience
• Strong understanding of user-centred design methods
• Considerable experience of UX in application development (web and native mobile apps)
• Adept at sketching with pen and paper, compiling annotated wireframes and constructing interactive prototypes
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to use them with stakeholders, clients and end-users
• Ability to write usability test plans, interview scripts, and post-research analysis reports
• Proficiency in Sketch and a range of other industry-standard tools
• Capacity to learn the complex and wrinkly domain of equity compensation

Bonus points for any of these:

• A psychology background and an interest in specializing in research activities
• A flair for the visual and an interest in focusing on UI design activities
• Development experience and/or a demonstrable understanding of technical feasibility

What will you do?

As part of the UX team at Solium you’ll be working closely with dev teams, product managers and business analysts, following the Agile project methodology. Our principle focus is on the employee-facing Shareworks web application (builtin React) and the equivalent mobile app (React Native). New features need to be implemented and existing features revised.

You’ll be gaining an understanding of the requirements, exploring the implications, sketching wireframes and collaborating closely with colleagues. You’ll be usability testing new and existing functionality. At Solium, we are embracing design thinking and continually striving to promote UX throughout the organization. You will be part of this, too.

What’s in it for you?

  • Join a growing yet close-knit UX team

  • Help shape an industry-leading global product

  • Work directly with our finance partners like Morgan Stanley, UBS and Barclays

  • Freedom to innovate: taking the initiative is strongly encouraged

  • Become accredited with our Shareworks Academy certification program

  • Be granted equity in the company and share in our mutual successes

  • Receive a competitive benefits package

  • Enjoy a fun working environment (read: Nerf)

  • Live in an amazing city, rich in places to play

What next?
Apply with these three things:
1. Cover letter
2. Resumé
3. Portfolio showing your process. It should show examples of the user-centered design process, design thinking, as well as your final design solutions.

Thanks for your interest! If we like what we see, we’ll be in touch.
