Warby Parker is searching for a well-rounded Principal Software Engineer to join our 60+ person on-site Engineering team and help build the next great lifestyle brand. What you'll do:



  • Build and improve software systems for our fast-growing, industry-disrupting e-commerce business

  • Build cloud infrastructure, manage our production environment, and participate in our on-call rotation

  • Lead or support one of our Agile teams, learning anything and everything necessary to deliver exceptional technology

  • Participate in code reviews and help maintain high standards of code quality

  • Work with other technology teams and leaders within our company to refine best practices and processes

  • Evaluate and mentor other engineers on our team


Who you are:



  • Backed by at least 6 years of professional programming experience, including time at a rapidly growing e-commerce or technology organization

  • Able to build large, complex, and highly maintainable systems and web apps—and you have the track record to prove it!

  • Familiar with building and operating production software in the cloud at scale using AWS, GCP, Azure, or a similar provider

  • Knowledgeable of modern relational databases, like PostgreSQL or MySQL

  • Equipped with a solid understanding of Linux or other UNIX-like systems

  • Experienced in Agile development and Continuous Delivery

  • Well-versed in computer science fundamentals

  • Passionate about great design (you want even internal applications to be beautiful!)

  • A flexible, open-minded developer who’s able and eager to learn new domains quickly

  • An all-around excellent communicator, whether face-to-face, over email, or via smoke signal


Extra credit:



  • Experience with multiple programming languages, web frameworks, and datastores

  • Expertise in at least one statically typed and one dynamically typed programming language

  • Experience with web service design and implementation (e.g., REST or JSON-RPC)

  • Direct involvement with open-source software projects
