This position is in the Data Engineering group of NIBR Informatics and will work with computational biologists, bioinformaticians and other engineers to implement world-class data-driven solutions for drug discovery.
You will quickly learn new and cutting-edge technologies and be flexible and intelligent in coming up to speed with new scientific concepts and problem domains. You will work within a team to develop creative and scalable solutions to complex technical problems.
Current projects include:
• Planning and designing a very large federated data processing and analytics platform
• Advanced distributed analytics workflows with Spark
• Using Java and Scala/Spark to integrate, manage and analyze multi-terabytes of genomic data
• Using advanced graph-based modeling and automated logical inference to enrich biological datasets
As most of these projects push the limits of current hardware and software stacks, you must have a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals.

The members in this group design and develop data intensive systems to support groundbreaking medical research activities and collaborate with world-class scientists and informaticians all over the globe.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Degree in Computer Science or relevant discipline
EXPERIENCE:
• 3+ years of experience building large scale software systems
• Experience implementing creative solutions to difficult computational problems with emphasis on performance and near real-time data analytics
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Scala and Spark expertise
• Knowledge of distributed data processing and management systems
PREFERRED:
• Advanced degree in Computer Science
• Experience with AWS cloud technologies and stack
• Knowledge of Polyglot databases, NoSQL, RDBMS and other new SQL
• RDF, formal logic, or other advanced modeling tools expertise
• Data mining techniques
• Experience in life sciences is a strong plus
