TYPE OF WORK

The projects you will manage will be technically demanding and span many technical disciplines, often with a software emphasis. Your teams, clients, and projects will vary across technologies, industries, and stages in the project lifecycle – from developing and supporting deployment of the first truly global push-to-talk mobile communications system to driving cutting edge initiatives in AI.

You will have the creative freedom and responsibility to design and execute projects to meet your clients’ needs, and your position at the interface between your clients and the technical teams will have a defining impact on project success.

Communication is key. You will need to be adept at understanding and translating the business needs of your clients and complex technical concepts and challenges from your team of exceptionally bright engineers.

DAY TO DAY

There is no such thing as a typical project. Your clients will be ambitious startups and major global organizations across many markets and industries, and will each have different asks for how they want their projects to be run. Projects will range from technology strategy advice, through product realization and NPI, to support for ongoing operations. Our Project Managers are resourceful and excel in their ability to take on something new with each project, adapting to many different functions, activities, and client needs.

Project management activities you will be responsible for include:

  • Working with clients to understand their needs and the value Cambridge Consultants can bring to their business

  • In close partnership with technical leads, designing, planning, estimating, and preparing project proposals

  • Communicating project proposals to clients, making it very clear how they meet your clients’ needs

  • Once underway, driving projects through the entire project lifecycle, keeping teams on task, on time, and on budget

  • Nurturing an open and collaborative working relationship with your clients throughout projects, based on trust

  • Providing critical information on project status, risks, and issues to your clients, enabling you and them to work together to make informed decisions on the direction of projects

  • Leading and directing meetings with clients, keeping meetings on point and efficient

  • Playing a key role as part of the technical team – facilitating team meetings and design reviews, discussing technical trade-offs, monitoring and mitigating technical risks, and asking the right questions to understand project status, particularly with respect to software maturity and readiness

In addition to your project management responsibilities, you will drive the growth of Wireless and Digital Services in our Boston office, by:

  • Playing a key role in supporting business development, representing Cambridge Consultants at sales meetings and external events, and building long-term relationships with key clients

  • Contributing to recruitment activities to attract the best talent to augment our team in Boston

  • Helping to instil best practice in project management throughout the organization, using your experience with different tools and techniques, particularly in software development
