About the Role

As a member of the Architecture and Technology Group (ATG), you will act to accelerate the adoption of ARM technology to open up new markets for ARM products by complementing the activities of our product groups and segment marketing team. This often involves development of, and working with, hardware/software prototypes and models that will not yet be available to the general public. Work is carried out on a range of development platforms, software models, simulators, and production code; this is a forward-looking position, typically looking 3 to 5 years out before these technologies are deployed as commercial products by ARM partners.

Primarily focused on server memory & storage systems, you will be exploring the optimal usage of emerging technologies by prototyping relevant use cases in the future datacenter. On this team you will drive innovation, impact the future of ARM technology, and work alongside system architects and technology experts from across ARM and the extended partnership.

What will I be accountable for?

As part of the Server & Storage Future Systems Design team based in Austin, you will:

  • Explore the value of disruptive, emerging technologies by prototyping their use in future server memory and storage systems

  • Bring-up and analyse representative workloads on real hardware as required

  • Leverage and develop simulation/modelling infrastructure to quantify system-level performance sensitivities to primary design changes to make recommendations for future systems & IP’s

  • Collaborate with other teams within ARM and with external partners to influence direction of future architecture, micro-architecture, & bus interface specifications

Job Requirements

What skills, experience, and qualifications do I need?


  • 5+ years related work and/or research experience

  • Appropriate university degree, ideally in electrical or computer engineering, although other graduates will be considered if they have relevant experience

  • Excellent understanding of fundamentals of modern computer architecture, particularly the memory sub-system

  • Excellent understanding of HW/SW aspects impacting performance in modern systems

  • Ability to bring-up complex server software stacks, create a reproducible workload, & characterize/analyse performance on hardware using appropriate tools & methodologies

  • Solid experience using full system simulation and associated models, understanding the pros and cons of different approaches and methodologies

  • Good understanding of the Linux kernel & comfortable operating in Linux environments

  • Good C/C++ programming skills

  • Pro-active and self-motivated

  • Willingness to be flexible and accept new challenges

  • Good written and oral communication skills


  • Experience with server workloads and related standard benchmarks

  • Experience with high performance server-class IO devices (network & storage)
