We are looking for a Lead Engineer to join our NYC-based writing tools front-end team. We've spent the past year modernizing our code-bases: React/Redux on the front-end, REST APIs in PHP & Ruby on the back-end. Our products have a global audience of over 30 million students, so everything we do must scale.
We want a candidate who's passionate about improving the lives of students. You'd do this by guiding tech strategy, facilitating the successful delivery of projects, and strengthening our engineering culture.
Responsibilities:
- Join a team of 5 engineers and help grow it
- Key areas:
- Engineering Strategy – Defining and driving the engineering strategy we desire to have a scalable architecture as we exploring bring forward lots of data in discoverable ways to our students and institutions. We need to build a rapid way of testing ideas
- Execution – Deliver on-time with high bar of quality our engineering solutions
- Engineering Culture – Foster an environment of ownership, innovation and technical excellence in our deliverables
- Team Development – Proven ability to build great teams and develop others.
- Must be able to work with and influence a cross-functional leadership team
- Provide thought leadership on engineering vision and strategy and create alignment in across platforms and products within the Learning Services Space
- Put the student first and lead creative and holistic thinking across the engineering organization to improve our technology and the way we deliver it
Requirements:
- 1+ years of lead engineer experience with a similar stack to ours
- 7+ years of software engineering experience for web or mobile
- Have experience creating consumer-focused products and features & collaborating with UX & Product teams
- An awesome communicator and storyteller that can rally support for an engineering vision and strategy
- Must have recent hands-on experience at both an architectural and code review level
- Have lead teams through new product development along with refactoring and consolidation of technologies across different properties
- Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with modern development approaches (containerization, using Amazon Web Services, CD, micro-services, modular reactive web applications)
- An infectious passion for engineering excellence
