Design Technologist - MSK Data Products

MSK Data Products, a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, engineers, and designers within Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, is seeking a Design Technologist to amplify the team’s work (and by extension, our clinicians and researchers) through innovative front-end tools built upon modern web architecture.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Write scalable, maintainable code in support of our clinician-facing platform and its corresponding design system.

  • Introduce automated testing, visual regression testing, and linting for our Sass architecture.

  • Champion a “code-first” product design methodology for all designers, optimizing for web-accessible, programmatic design solutions over a Sketch-centric worldview.

  • Riff on, build prototypes around, and ship solutions that will remove friction between information and MSK’s staff and patients.

Also expected:

  • Deep knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, React, and when to experiment with something new.

  • Experience with and opinions on release processes (continuous deployment/continuous integration).

  • Enthusiasm to partner with design and front-end teams on evolving our design system to accommodate user needs throughout the hospital.

  • Curiosity in machine intelligence and the recently, algorithmically possible.

Extra points:

  • Writes (and appreciates) good documentation.

  • Have worked on shipping a design system in the past.

  • If you half regret not double majoring in biology and computer science.

Minimum Bachelor’s degree.  Master’s degree preferred.

MSK Data Products supports the hospital’s clinicians, researchers, and operational staff through intuitive, custom software. Our primary product is used by hundreds of staff each day to understand our patient population in rich detail. Each member of our team is encouraged to spend 15% of their time on R&D, testing new ideas in an industry ripe for innovation.
