The Automation Engineer role at VMware focuses on end to end automation across our suite of products. You will be working with engineering teams to innovate different solutions across a variety of platforms. Throughout the product suite, you will be responsible for the creation and execution of end to end automation that provides our engineering teams with valuable use case validation. This role requires working with diverse teams across the globe, and a willingness to innovate solutions to problems across our product sphere. Position Responsibilities: 

  • Work within the functional engineering teams to triage, analyze, and resolve automation and testing failures

  • Participate in the engineering efforts and their respective release lifecycles

  • Identify and establish engineering processes and best practices for release lifecycles

  • Build and maintain necessary tools for day to day operations

  • Take ownership of key technical components

  • Participate in product and feature design with Engineering and Product Management

  • Able to demonstrate effective self-management by prioritizing and delivering multiple tasks within anticipated deadlines

  • Ability to analyze requirements to define test strategies and scope

Position Requirements: 

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in software engineering

  • Strong Object-Oriented Programming skills in at least one of the following: Java, Ruby, C#, and/or Python

  • Experience working with Automation frameworks such as TestNG or Cucumber

  • Able to work with source control systems such as Git or SVC

  • Experience participating in architectural design reviews

  • Experience working with at least one of the following: Android, iOS, macOS, Linux, Windows 10, and/or Windows Server

  • Strong understanding of networking principles

  • Able to demonstrate strong critical thinking skills through troubleshooting and problem solving

Preferred Experience: 

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or a related field or equivalent education

  • Experience with Selenium, Appium, or another mobile automation tool such as Experitest SeeTest

  • Experience with Continuous Integration and/or Continuous Deployment tools such as Chef, Puppet, Jenkins or Bamboo

  • Experience working with any of the following scripting languages or platforms: PowerShell, Bash, and/or Ansible

  • Experience working with Email services such as Microsoft Exchange/O365, Google G Suite, and IBM Notes

  • Experience working with CDN and/or content repositories

  • Experience working with VPN interfaces

  • Experience working with hypervisors such as VMware vSphere, AWS, and Microsoft Hyper-V

  • Experience with Atlassians suite of products (JIRA, Stash, Confluence, etc.)

  • Experience with Behavioral Driven Development (BDD) or Test-Driven Development (TDD)
