Machine Learning Expert (Postdoc)

In the Fraunhofer IAIS, more than 260 employees develop customized solutions for the integration and analysis of data for our customers in the industry. The emphasis lays on competencies in the areas of big data, multimedia content analytics, information integration as well as enterprise modelling and analysis.

The department Knowledge Discovery offers a large team of committed scientists that work on solutions and approaches for our partners in research and industry. There is a large variety reaching from fundamental research in research projects to applying the current findings in different areas such as autonomous driving, industrial analytics, health care, process optimization and big data applications.

Our current research focuses on hybrid knowledge and data-based machine learning, trustworthy AI and their application in innovative cognitive systems. You can significantly contribute with your knowledge in machine learning and artificial intelligence, develop and publish new methods and use your expertise in projects with our customers from the industry.

Your tasks include

• Conception, development and implementation of new methods of machine learning and their application in projects
• 
  
• Support in defining and developing the research strategy of the department and coordination with our partners at universities
• 
  
• Supervision of academic papers
• 
  
• Support in the acquisition of scientific third party funding projects
• 
  
• Acquisition of industry projects and counselling of our industry partners in terms of machine learning
• 
  
• Conducting t rainings

What we expect from you

• 
  
• In addition to your scientific university degree (Master / Diplom), you have successfully completed your PhD in Computer Science or a similar subject and you are familiar with mathematical methods of data a nalysis.
• 
  
• You have academic and practical experience in machine learning e.g. in deep learning, Bayesian methods, logic-based machine learning or k ernel methods.
• 
  
• You have experience in one of the following areas: textmining / NLP, trustworthy AI, anomaly detection, time series, interactive machine learning, hybrid knowledge-based machine learning.
• 
  
• Good programming skills in Python as well as in NumPy/SciPy are essential.
• 
  
• Ideally you are familiar with TensorFlow or Torch.
• 
  
• You have routine in applying agile methods of software development such as Scrum, TDD & Continuous Integration and you are acquainted with code management, for example with Git.
• 
  
• You have proven your ability to work scientifically: You have been published in renowned journals and you have spoken at conferences.
• 
  
• You are able to speak and write English fluently; your German is good (B2) or you are, with our support, willing to achieve good German skills quickly.
• 
  
• You show a high degree of initiative, responsibility and willingness to perform.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits are based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally, Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The position is initially limited to 2 years (with the possibility of extention).
This vacancy is also available on a part-time basis.
