SQL Engineer DBA
Role Summary
The SQL Engineer DBA will report to the Senior Director of Engineering. The role will be split between production support of Clinicient’s MS SQL environments and hands-on SQL development work as part of Clinicient’s SCRUM process. The split is envisioned to be 50/50 but could migrate towards more development work as more and more production DBA processes become automated.
Essential Responsibilities
- SQL Engineer
- Primary lead on project to synchronize and identify master schema for Insight databases.
- Create and tune indexes based on customer performance.
- Implement data archival strategy across all customer databases.
- Implement data model changes as part of the continuous delivery and build process.
- Create, modify, and optimize SSIS packages, stored procedures, views, triggers, indexes, and SQL agent jobs.
- Create ETL solutions for migrating data in/out of Clinicient databases.
- Provide Engineering support for production issues and service requests.
- Support Scrum Development teams
- Provide support to development teams for solving challenging technical problems through application of prototypes, core library development, and knowledge of industry best practices
- Participate in design and code reviews
- Perform SQL coding as necessary
- DevOps DBA
- Work with the Technology Operations team to define current Capacity Plan, document future requirements, and implement plan to achieve.
- Perform Installation and Configuration of SQL environments (Prod, Pre-Prod, DR)
- Take ownership of Database Performance and improved Customer Experience. Implement Industry Standard Performance Monitoring and Alerting toolkits. Report out to team on trends across databases. Tune databases to improve performance.
- Regularly perform Load-Balancing and Database Migration across production horizontally scaled servers based on performance metrics.
- Responsible for ensuring security of all customer and Clinicient data. Implement security best practices across databases in all environments.
- Ensure Backup and Data Recovery processes meet immediate recovery backup best practices and backups are readily available in the event of a disaster.
- Perform troubleshooting across databases as required, including diving into stored procedures when necessary.
- Perform SQL Deployments following the Clinicient Change Control process across all SQL environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the team and the entire organization
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Hands on experience developing on MS SQL Server 2012 or 2014.
- Experience in SSIS and SSRS.
- Expert with stored procedures, triggers, T-SQL scripts, and performance issues with high volume web database design.
- Experience in relational data modeling principles and techniques.
- Experience with large mission-critical application databases.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Experience developing solutions using a SCRUM methodology.
- Experience working in a Continuous Integration and Continuous Test environment.
- Strong motivation to create customer satisfaction through the delivery of high-quality end-user applications and by solving real problems for real users.
- Self-starter able to work with little supervision.
- Ability to productively participate in client facing troubleshooting meetings.
- Ability to handle difficult situations with diplomacy and tact.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to diagnose and solve problems creatively.
- Ability to communicate clearly to varied audiences in writing, by phone, and in person
- Must work well in fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
Education and Experience
- Minimum 7+ years of progressive work experience with production database administration and database development in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience and desire to dive into complex technical problems when troubleshooting customer issues with performance or functionality.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Healthcare industry experience desirable.
- Experience with distributed computing (Hive/Hadoop) a plus.
