The Blue Brain Project (BBP) applies advanced neuroinformatics, data analytics, high-performance computing, and simulation-based approaches to the challenge of understanding the structure and function of the mammalian brain in health and disease.
The team you would join is in charge of organising and cataloging all Blue Brain’s data, including experimental data, models, simulation and validation data. All data is integrated and made available through a data integration platform called Blue Brain Nexus to enable and accelerate the delivery of BBP’s scientific goals. To strengthen its Data and Knowledge Engineering team, BBP is looking for a junior neuron morphology specialist.

The candidate will be primarily responsible for developing, maintaining a suite of tools and libraries to support data integration activities into our instance of Blue Brain Nexus.


Main duties and responsibilities include :



  • 3D reconstruction of neuron morphologies from experimental brain imaging data,

  • Perform quality control on neuron reconstructions from internal and external scientific

  • collaborators,

  • Integrate the acquired data into Blue Brain Nexus platform,

  • Communicate across multi-disciplinary teams with neuroscientists and computer scientists.


Your profile :



  • Bachelor degree in computational neuroscience or equivalent

  • Track record in neuroscience data acquisition

  • Eager to learn

  • English written and spoken. French would be a plus


Experience and preferred skills:



  • Expertise in identifying neurological morphology data

  • Ability to maintain a very strong focus on acquisition work

  • Strong attention to details and committed to delivering high-quality work

  • Neurolucida or similar neuron reconstruction software

  • Data analytic tool (R, Matlab, etc.)


Experience in any of the following areas would be a plus:



  • Familiarity with Python

  • Understanding of operating a microscope

  • Knowledge in image processing / computer vision
