DevOps Engineer at EPFL - Blue Brain Project (Genève, Switzerland)

The EPFL Blue Brain Project (BBP), situated on the Campus Biotech in Geneva, Switzerland, applies advanced neuroinformatics, data analytics, high-performance computing and simulation-based approaches to the challenge of understanding the structure and function of the mammalian brain in health and disease. The BBP provides the community with regular releases of data, models and tools to accelerate neuroscience discovery and clinical translation through open science and global collaboration.
BBP is now looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer with software-oriented mind to join the Core Services Section to develop solutions for BBP’s new High Performance Computingcluster:


- API & integration services for HPC workload handling (e.g. metascheduling)
- authentication and authorization services (e.g. OIDC, AD, Keycloak)
- data management services (e.g. location, access, retention, classification) for large datasets
- automation for HPC and other IT services

In addition to the listed HPC development areas, we offer the opportunity to work with modern cloud and container stacks (OpenStack, Openshift) and various DevOps tools (Jenkins, Foreman, Gerrit, Pulp, Puppet – to name some). You would also have a chance to work for BBP’s emerging IT projects as they emerge.



We expect you to have proficiency in:



  • programming/scripting languages (e.g. Python, Ruby, shell)

  • configuration automation, provisioning and CI tools (e.g. Puppet, Git, Jenkins)

  • integrations / API based solutions (e.g. REST)

  • authentication and authorization frameworks (LDAP, OIDC)

  • Agile methodologies (Scrum)

  • data management processes / data science

  • Linux (e.g. RedHat/CentOS, Ubuntu)


We count as advantage your experience in:



  • HPC and/or HTC environments

  • cloud and container technologies (e.g. Openstack, OpenShift)

  • operating production services in various computing environments

  • IT infrastructure knowledge (servers, storage, networking)


Your profile :



  • Bachelor or Master degree in computer science - or similar

  • Experience working in a collaborative and multi-cultural environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral

  • Fast learner, eager to expand your domains of expertise

  • Proven ability to work both independently and in team-based environments

  • Fluent communication in English (written and spoken)
