Ikos, a Pittsburgh-based startup is seeking a Platform Engineer to join our efforts in scaling our business and sales efforts. We're VC backed, have successfully graduated the AlphaLab startup accelerator program, and are operating in more than four cities.
As a Platform Engineer at Ikos, you'll be working with multiple stakeholders that are internal and external to the company to create experiences for employees, landlords and renters that are scalable, efficient and delight everyone they engage.
About Ikos
The residential renting process is a mess for both renters and landlords. We are here to change that. We are aiming to simplify how landlords (specifically small-medium sized landlords) manage their investment properties, while better serving the renters who call that investment home.
Ikos is delivering a scalable leasing service for residential landlords that improves their occupancy rates and provides real-time market data for rental, rehab and investment decisions.
Our team is a small (but mighty) team that works closely together to get things done. We are heavily focused on growing our incredible engineering team by bringing on key additions that will not only help our organization grow, but have plenty of growth opportunities in return.
About You & Your Impact
You should be passionate about the work you do and about being a significant member of a growing startup. You do not need a computer science degree, you only need to be able to demonstrate proficiency in coding and communication. You are excited about seeing projects from sprint to sprint grow and take form. You love dissecting complex business problems and using software to provide the business solutions that can propel the company and industry forward. Your impact will be felt immediately with the ability to get under the hood and work with the entire company to solve actual business problems.
What you need
- Proficiency in a fourth-generation language (4GL) like Python or Ruby
- Clear communications skills, even with non-engineers
- Experience building/deploying software in a 24/7 operating environment
- Able to write clearly understood documentation
- Experience writing unit tests
- Experience working with non-engineers for needs gathering
- Experience with the Linux operating environment
- Familiarity with the OSI Model
Bonus points
- Experience with Python in particular
- Experience with Golang
- Experience with Linux containers
- Experience with cloud providers like AWS, GCE, or Digital Ocean
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP and use cases for TCP vs UDP
Expectations
- Design service components through needs assessment and design documents
- Develop new components and functionality through TDD
- Participation in code reviews
- Local to the greater Pittsburgh area (or willingness to relocate)
- Participation in on-call rotation
- Participate respectfully in technical discussions
