Unreasonably versatile five-legged sheep
‘Hands on’ Solutions Architect
Build an amazing wealth management platform
We develop innovative solutions for Wealth & Asset Managers. But to shake up the finance world we must do a lot of things differently. To be able to have a good competitive advantage we offer our productized software in a Software-as-a-Service model and service our solutions from the Amazon Web Services cloud.
What do you need to be?
To be honest: we are looking for the ‘five-legged sheep’, a mythical creature that you see rarely. We want you to be unreasonably versatile…
You need to be a real ‘hands on’ colleague within our development team. In our start-up there is no room for theoretical professors who know books but never applied their skills in practice. We need someone who has a history in the field as developer, devops engineer or likewise.
We need a colleague that is well-seasoned in different aspects of IT. You need to know about almost everything tech-related or learn really fast on those areas where you don’t have knowledge or experience in.
Since we are building complex applications for the financial industry we also need you to have some expertise in this field. For example: you were an engineer within a bank, you have been building on a portfolio management system or worked on FIX or SWIFT gateway. Somehow your previous jobs gave you the basic understanding of the characteristics of solutions in the financial industry.
Some of the items on our roadmap are pre-defined and research may have been done upfront. But as we are a fast-moving start-up it often happens that you need to figure out how to get stuff done, both organizational and technical.
If the above scares you then you might not be the person we are looking for, but if you are up for a lot of responsibility and a versatile job that is not pre-defined than you might be what we are looking for.
What would you do?
We want to focus on adding product value and not being busy with maintaining a server-park, so we use a Serverless architecture. The serverless community is rapidly expanding but it is relatively new. We have very skilled developers with a lot of knowledge on implementing cloud solutions, but we could use a hand in structuring and organizing our products and product development with a technical perspective. What we need is an AWS cloud expert, someone both knowing all of AWS its services inside-out and has experience in guiding a software development process.
On a day-to-day basis you will assist our developers and product owners with all the problems they face, but you can also spot misjudged decisions on solutions from a mile distance. Your role is to make sure that what we build is also future-proof, even if the long-term requirements are still vaguely defined.
Our business people also need a sparring partner to assess their product vision on technical feasibility and help making estimates on the amount of work on each roadmap item and transform high-level plans into structured sprints and milestones.
When requirements come in on features or new products we need to translate these requirements into work packages for the development team. You need to work out the business requirements into technical implementation and assist the developers in development. To prove possibilities of your architecture you might build a proof-of-concept yourself so your history as Javascript developer comes in handy!
You also gather multiple tasks into sprints and keep track of progress in our daily standups. When the developer has finished you assist in reviewing the pull request(s).
We also have an architectural board where improvements and new architectures are discussed and decided, you should chair this board and guide the decisions into projects, stories or tasks.
In all this, you act as the right-hand to the CTO and lift some of the technical work from his hands.
