As a Director within the VIPER CDN Engineering team you will focus and prioritize the team's backlog within key development and deployment aspects of the CDN. You will be responsible for recruiting, developing, and managing a team of engineers who are responsible for supporting the application throughout the lifecycle of product development including deployments.

Who does the CDN engineering team work with?

CDN engineers are positioned within the Video Engineering organization and work with all engineering teams within the organization. We work with network engineers, architects, systems administrators, software engineers, product owners and project managers. The CDN team is a diverse collection of software engineers, operations, systems administrators, network administrators, automation developers, and quality assurance engineers from all walks of life.

The primary focus of the CDN team is Traffic Control, an Open Source CDN control plane for which we created and continue to lead the development. Want to learn more? We're a small team, delivering state-of-the-art software solutions at the leading edge of CDN technology.

You and your team:

  • We deliver petabytes of traffic and billions of transactions every day. Our software infrastructure is crucial in analyzing this data to visualize trends, and enable deep-diving into issues.
  • We provide end to end system integration service on large and complex cdn projects.
  • We Direct implementation initiatives for new software products and applications. Organizes software update process for existing applications and coordinates the roll-out of software releases.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage Platform Delivery engineers.
  • Prioritize workload as the team troubleshoots and triages issues while supporting ongoing development and deployment activities.
  • Assign and track work and prepare status updates.
  • build application monitoring solutions using Splunk, ELK stack, Prometheus, Sysdig, etc.
  • work with the team to continuously refine software delivery process, to help drive new features and product stability.
  • work with the platform engineering team and product/project managers to validate new architecture and define roll out strategy.
  • be responsible for end to end system deployment design.
  • need to ensure capacity requirements are met by working with business and operations teams.
  • Work with your team to design, develop and deliver scalable software solutions for internal an open source use.

Skills & Requirements:

  • 7+ years team leadership and track record driving results
  • 10+ years programming experience-optional
  • Understanding on how to scale applications depending on load
  • Ability to navigate Unix operating systems
  • Excellent communicator and able to clearly articulate complex issues and technologies
  • Great design and problem solving skills
  • Willing to take ownership of problems and see them through to resolution
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced agile environment. Requirements change quickly and our team needs to constantly adapt to moving targets

About the CDN Team:

The CDN team is a quasi-startup group within Comcast's Technology and Product Division and is based in Denver's LoDo district. Our technology is open-source based, and our products deliver video and other content over IP infrastructure to an array of connected devices in and out of the home.
