VMware Cloud Deployment Engineer at iland Secure Cloud (Houston, TX) (allows remote)

iland is looking for an experienced Cloud Deployment Engineer to help facilitate Disaster Recovery, Backup, and Infrastructure as a Service customer implementations into iland’s state-of-the-art global cloud infrastructure. This ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience working with VMware. This is a full-time position reporting to the Manager of Cloud Services.

This position influences all aspects of a customer cloud deployment, including virtual machines, networking, and backup/replication technologies. Responsibilities



  • Primarily responsible for technical customer deployment activities

  • Work with numerous customer environment types to ensure a smooth testing and onboarding experience

  • Provide technical ownership and accountability of all responsibilities assigned during customer implementation projects

  • Work with project managers to complete assigned tasks

  • Complete deployment projects using iland best practices

  • Communicate effectively with customers, sales team, and project team

  • Document steps taken, problems incurred, and resolution of issues for customer review

  • Foster communication and transparency through all iland teams and staff involved in the sale and delivery of projects




REQUIREMENTS


Required Skills


The following skills represent the minimum requirements to be considered for this position:


o Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline


o 5+ years recent experience as a technical, hands-on, enterprise VMware administrator


o Enterprise customer-facing technical support experience


o Hands-on knowledge of disaster recovery and backup solutions


o Experience working with global data center environments


o Proven ability to troubleshoot advanced customer issues


o Good understanding of how different technologies work together


o Excellent communicator, high energy, positive attitude, aptitude for professional growth




Preferred Skills


The following skills represent additional proficiencies preferred to be successful in this position:


o VMware VCA/VCP/VCAP certified


o Cisco UCS experience


o Zerto, Veeam, or DoubleTake experience


o Microsoft server administrative experience (Server, SQL, etc.)


o Technical experience with Cisco ASA and industry standard firewalls

Key responsibilities


• Partner directly with the business to understand, decompose, and scope technical solutions that will create value internally or externally

• Create full-stack technical solutions utilizing our internal platforms that are scalable and maintainable

• Operate in agile scrum teams and independently direct time and resources

• Build data pipelines and complex engineering required to sustainably source data into a cloud environment

• Collaborate with our technical organizations to source data and interoperate with existing systems

• Embed with business teams to understand processes and requirements and fit solutions within this framework

• Contribute to our core digital platform and augment capabilities to build data assets and continuously improve our platform offering


We are looking for


• Strong engineering background, with a degree or experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, or Data Science

• Independent and self-directed individuals that thrive in ambiguity

• Deep experience with data technologies, from relational databases to big data solutions

• Data engineering and pipeline technology experience - particularly open source and modern frameworks

• Desire and ability to learn the business and become an expert in the industry

• Familiarity with compiled languages + algorithms and data structures

• Good instincts around data and experience with analytics and machine learning

• Willingness to operate as a full-stack engineer and desire to create end-to-end solutions
