Role: PHP Developer - Full Stack
Duration: 12 Months + possible extension
Rate: Negotiable*depending on experience
Location: Toronto, ON


Ruby Life, a recognized Digital Tech firm is looking to hire a PHP Developer for a minimum 12 months based in Toronto, to work on a major upcoming project.


Your New Company
Ruby Life, a leading technology firm in the digital / online space with are looking to onboard a PHP Developer. This is for a minimum 12 month contract in their Toronto offices. They have a great reputation and working culture, highly geared towards collaboration and continuous innovation within their industry.


Your New Role
* As PHP Developer, you will be involved in all stages of developing that product. You'll create new product ideas and help guide the product roadmap, spec out what the next generation will look like, and implement it yourself. Because of this, we look for individuals who thrive in an environment where they will work creatively, take initiative and deliver on commitments.
* Contribute to product design and implementation discussions
* Push the envelope on speed to implement projects from the idea phase to production
* Test and iterate code before and after production release
* Design, architect, and implement new functionality
* Maintain existing code base and implement new features as required
* Analyze, modify, and extend existing applications as well as develop new codes
* Understand scalability, systems engineering and algorithms


What You'll Need to Succeed:
* Proven experience in Software Development (Full Stack) with an understanding of test/behavior driven development
* Must have min 5 years of experience with PHP 5+, MySQL 5+
* Experience with JavaScript MV* (Angular Js, React) frameworks, design patterns, jQuery, HTML, CSS, Version control and Git is required
* Nice to have experience with third party APIs, Web API development
* Experience with Nginx and/or Linux is an asset
* Experience working with payment processing is an asset
* Experience with Unix shell scripts is an asset
* Experience with websites localization is an asset
* Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including senior management, peers and third parties
* Attention to detail and exceptional verbal and written communication skills
* Interest in learning to work with various JavaScript libraries and frameworks
* Quickly learn new languages, as required to support the business

The client is offering a 12 month contract, with a high likelihood of extension and a very competitive rate for an incorporated contractor.

 What Tools and Technology Would I be Using?


 You have experience and are comfortable with this technology stack:



  • Node.js, SQL Server


You will work with the following, so experience in these is a definite asset:



  • 5+ Year experience in JavaScript with strong proficiency

  • Strong knowledge of Node.js and frameworks available for it

  • Demonstrated development expertise in MongoDB platform or similar NoSQL technologies

  • Knowledge of modeling/architectural patterns, governance methodologies, and potential limitations within MongoDB

  • Experience in implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests

  • Good Understanding of web accessibility (WCAG 2.0 AA) and security compliance (OWASP)

  • Experience in user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments

  • Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system

  • Experience in Creating database schemas that represent and support business processes

  • Background in OO application development

  • Familiarity with a multi-platform, distributed environment

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience

  • Bonus points for cloud development, especially Pivotal Cloud Foundry and / or Azure


What Work Will I be Doing?

  • Work with Business Systems Analysts to come up with solutions to problems

  • Deliver on requirements for new and existing clients
