The Orchard is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform to build and evolve our core Data Platform in London.


Responsibilities



  • Create and maintain systems to load and transform very large data sets

  • Work with a cross-functional team to create data-driven insights and reports for business stakeholders

  • Work with the Software Engineering team to create customer-facing analytics tools and visualizations

  • Measure and monitor performance of data systems

  • Participate in re-architecture, refinement and technical design of various systems

  • Mentor more associate level members of the team and organization


Qualifications



  • 5+ years of experience architecting and leading implementation scalable data pipelines

  • 5+ years of SQL experience

  • 5+ years in a scripting language such as Python, PHP, JavaScript, etc

  • Significant experience with distributed processing frameworks such as MapReduce, Spark, Airflow or similar

  • Significant experience with various database technologies such as Cassandra, Snowflake, Redshift, ElasticSearch, Neo4J, etc

  • Experience writing unit and integration tests

  • Experience working in an AGILE team

  • Can mobilize teams around a vision and help lead execution of that vision

  • Experience with data modelling and schema design of real world use cases

  • Defines best practices and standards within the data team and helps build tooling to make those easy to follow

  • Proactive problem solving

  • Ability to extract insight, and tell a story, from a data set

  • Experience augmenting, and cleaning, a dataset to answer questions

  • Experience optimising tables, schemas and data structures

  • Ability to determine sensible KPIs and optimise against them
