Digital Operations and Technology (DOT) is a centre of excellence within the Retail Banking Digital space and plays an integral part in the purpose and success of CommBank.  We are responsible for delivering an exceptional customer experience across all digital touch points.

Within DOT, the Core API Team is responsible for creating frictionless APIs to the Bank’s core product systems and enable our developer community to create new experiences that will improve the lives of millions of Australians.

As the Principal Engineer of the Core API team you’ll be responsible for guiding the evolution of this software through leading a team of like-minded engineers to design and develop technologies that will improve the way people interact with their money.

Do work that matters:

• Lead the engineering team to design and deliver the API surface that allows for simplified, consistent access to core banking services.


• Design and develop overall architecture for the Core APIs.


• Continual refinement and optimisation of the APIs.


• Track and measure the consumption of all APIs.


• Coordinate with engineers in all related parts of the Bank’s Software stack.


• Help to cultivate an exemplary lean manufacturing mindset within the Core Interface engineering team.

We are interested in hearing from people who possess

• Experience as a Back End/Full Stack/Front End Developer using JavaScript


• Experience with Node.js and frameworks commonly used to create RESTful API endpoints


• Experience developing and designing scalable, secure server-side application

Preferred but not essential skills

• Experience developing high load/high traffic user-facing software.


• Experience with cloud technologies, including container platforms.


• Experience with building, maintaining and optimizing responsive web apps.


• Experience designing for both relational and noSQL databases.


• Experience deploying services to Linux/Unix
