Job Description :
- The Reservation-Less Conferencing space is a 24 hour a day by 7 day a week on-going effort. On the audio-conferencing perspective, Storm Cloud (SC), there are several technologies that comprise this twelve-factor based solution. In addition, SC is a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) cloud-based application that only relies upon the Intrado network for the telephony (e.g. Sonus).
- In short, a Devops engineer would need to be extremely flexible, would need to be comfortable with several technologies, and would need to be able to work with a number of different groups including development, networking, support, as well as potentially interacting with the Business teams. Some of the areas of Devops would include :
a) Project Planning :
- Devops engineers would need to work closely with the development teams in regard to project-planning. They would need to assist in defining thresholds, metrics collection, as well as determining cost vs benefits (ROI).
- They would need to provide tasks and work breakdown structure in order to help with forecasts and to bring the project to a successful conclusion.
b) Development :
- One of the mainstay tenets of Devops at Intrado is automation. If a task can be scripted, it will need to be. Our focus is one of repeatability with the idea that we would be able to recreate an application instance in a minimal amount of time and as an integral part of this effort to automatically test this instance against known benchmarks and pass. This area will involve several different technologies/disciplines in order to accomplish.
c) Deployment :
- Devops engineers will be responsible for the deployment of our application components. This will be based upon the other areas discussed; project planning and automation as well as the Intrado infrastructure and standards in place.
d) Environment :
- Devops will play a significant role in the initial configuration/setup of our applications from an overall systemic perspective. Credentials, working with the other support staff (e.g. operators), networking, as well as working with our vendors on critical issues will be another facet of our Devops engineers.
e) Performance Management :
- Devops engineers will be working closely with Development and others to assist in the setting of the performance benchmarks that would be used to define the alerting thresholds as well as setting the capacity measurements that the other areas of the business would need.
f) Incident Management :
- Devops will be play a role in troubleshooting problems that occur during the normal runtime of our production systems. When customer-impacting issues arise this may require an "all hands on deck" approach in which Devops would have a unique opportunity, on account of their skillsets and empirical knowledge of the application, to determine the next course in mitigating this impact.
Required Tools/Skillsets :
a) CICD tools :
- Jenkins
- Ansible
- Artifactory
- Kubernetes
- Github
b) Database Experience :
- Mongo / any NoSQL
- any SQL type database (Oracle / Informix) would be good
- Knowledge of JSON formatting
- Kafka / pubsub technology (not likely)
c) Programming Experience :
- At least one scripting language such as: Python, Shell, Perl
- Basic Java knowledge
- Spring Boot
- Maven
- Microservices
d) General linux knowledge :
- Installing packages (yum, apt-get)
- user administration
- ssl / certificates
- Docker
e) Cloud technology :
- General knowledge of cloud technology
- Google (GCP) a plus
- knowledge of DNS, firewalls
- Terraform - wish list item
f) Monitoring tools :
- New Relic / Dynatrace / AppDynamics
- Elasticsearch / ELK stack
- Debugging tools (Yourkit / Profiler)
