Who we're looking for

Octopus Energy is looking for a knowledgable DevOps focused platform engineer to join our growing team. This role is the first Platform Engineer role based in Australia, which means that being a clear, over communicator is a must as our head office is in the UK.

The person that will thrive is in this role is someone who is curious, learns and adapts quickly, and is a great team player. The challenges that we face with adapting the 'Kraken' platform from the UK energy market to the Australian energy market are meaty and not for the faint hearted. Our Kraken platform interacts with both consumers (via web, mobile and smart meters) and the industry (eg, data flows, consumption forecasting, trading on the wholesale market), which means our infrastructure has to be solid.

This platform engineer will be helping to design and build out our infrastructure, help set up integrations with third parties, and will swiftly step in to trouble shoot and monitor everything is going as it should.

What we're building:

We're building a modern, event-driven infrastructure for interacting with both consumers (via the web, mobile apps and smart-meters) and the industry (e.g. data flows, consumption forecasting, trading on the wholesale market).
 
Skills & Experience Required:

• Terraform


• AWS


• Docker/Kubernetes


• Networking (ie. configuring VPNs)


• Writing robust & fault-tolerant software

Bonus points if you have experience with:

• Python


• Django (or equic. web framework)


• Celery


• Async processing


• Working with a large Postgres database
