Full Stack Software Engineer at PaperCut Software (Camberwell, Australia)

Do you want to work for a seriously fun (or is that funly serious) award-winning global software company? Are you a developer who's passionate about building great product? Please read on.

PaperCut's software is developed here in Melbourne, with offices in the US and UK, and partners all around the globe. Our flagship print management software helps over 60,000 businesses in 180 countries cut waste, increase security, and minimise the cost of running their business every single day. Our customers love us because our software is easy to install and it just works.

We're gathering momentum on a new strategic line of products in our agile polyglot environment (Go, Java, Typescript, Kotlin, iOS, Android) and are looking for developers who want to own the engineering process end-to-end. This is as “full stack” as it gets.

What you'll do...

  • Join teams with other developers, designers, marketers and product people formed around enhancement or new product ideas.

  • Write well written, readable and tested code. We're looking for quality over quantity and simple over clever.

  • Contribute to architectural discussions and participate in code reviews.

  • Collaborate with our product leaders (including CEO) to help you understand our strategy and make great engineering decisions.

  • Most importantly you have a product mindset and you care about how your contribution will improve the experience of our customers.

  • To support your career progression you'll have access to your Development Coach and an abundance of technical and business mentors who can help you drive your career forward.

What you've got...

  • You're a team player willing to take on tasks outside of traditional development if required e.g. DevOps, QA, BA, support, market validation.

  • Workable knowledge in at least Go or Java. C or C++ advantageous (extra points for mobile dev, cloud, NoSql databases, IoT, big data and data analytics, or single page application).

  • Comfortable with agile and XP practices (pair programming etc.).

  • Familiarity with distributed systems will be a bonus when working on some of our products but not required.

  • You can adapt to an ever-changing software and business environment and don't mind making quick decisions with the support of your peers.

  • An active involvement in meetups or some form of software community contribution is not mandatory but will be viewed favourably and is encouraged within PaperCut.

  • An IT degree (BSc in Computer Science or Software Engineering) is preferred.

The perks...

  • Hopefully you love coffee, because we have unlimited espresso coffee at our in-house cafe. We’ll even train you to be a barista, as we value quality in everything we do.

  • Our Camberwell location is central without being in the city, only a minute's walk from the train station and easily accessible by car. You also get an outstanding view of the city from our shiny new deck.

  • You will have access to generous parental leave and flexible working practices.

  • There will be plenty of opportunities to focus on your well-being with weekly yoga, meditation, running, and walking groups.

  • We love loyalty, and hope that you do, too. PaperCutters get an additional five days annual leave for every five years they spend with us.

  • Co-founders Chris and Matt genuinely love sharing success with our people. So each year you'll get a 'Share the Success' bonus based on how well we met our company goals.

Our culture…

Our startup way of thinking keeps our business agile and we’re wired a little bit differently to the average corporate. Our team is at home in t-shirts and jeans, and stands around the espresso machine rather than a boardroom table, as we live our values of being caring, honest, intelligent and nimble. Our leaders aren’t in offices, instead they work collaboratively with our people with a focus on evolving what makes PaperCut great.

As a company that values diversity and inclusion, and is an equal opportunity employer, PaperCut encourages and welcomes people from all walks of life to apply (even tea drinkers).

If the above description made you stand up, take a deep breath looking to the horizon thinking “That’s me!” then we look forward to receiving your application shortly….be sure to tell us how you like your coffee too!
