Kognito (kognito.com) is a health simulation company based in NYC. We develop role-play simulations where users engage in conversations with virtual humans and learn how to lead similar conversations in real-life that result in improved social, emotional, and physical health. We work with more than 300 health, education, and gov’t organizations in and outside of the U.S. To date, more than 1 million people have completed a Kognito simulation. Our team of 50+ people includes learning scientists, psychologists, software engineers, graphic artists, writers, and operation specialists.


The Director of Technology is responsible for successfully managing and executing projects and software product development to completion within our web, infrastructure, Unity, and IT teams via an agile scrum environment.  The individual manages development managers, software and DevOps engineers, and quality analysts. The right candidate will embrace and lead a DevOps culture within that includes full accountability for a team(s) output. The director will partner with other leaders in the organization to introduce new product concepts and provide financial oversight.


Responsibilities



  • Manage the QA operations for the company

  • Promote a culture of innovation, efficiency, and quality

  • Ensure the teams are adhering to the development, change management, and relevant operational processes

  • Responsible for day-to-day leadership responsibilities to include hiring and developing a best in class team that is committed to and delivers excellence

  • Assist and lead teams in iteration planning, retrospectives, and demos

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with business and technical staff in on-site and virtual environments

  • Participate in, and in some cases lead, software engineering best practices initiatives

  • Develop long-term strategic product and financial planning for a development organization

  • Set and ensure KPI’s are being achieved

  • Ensure the DevOps teams are adhering to the development process, change management process, and other relevant operational processes


Education & Experience



  • Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field, or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ year's technical experience, including 1-2 years of project management experience, and 5-7 years of people management experience Certified Scrum Master / Iteration Lead or equivalent work experience

  • In depth experience with the LAMP stack

  • Familiarity with creating API integrations - particularly those involving Single Sign On via SAML, REST APIs, and integrations with learning management systems using SCORM, AICC, and xAPI

  • Ability to read and write code in a variety of languages including HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and C# a plus

  • Familiarity with cloud based hosting platforms like Rackspace and AWS

  • Working knowledge of database management (MS SQL, MySQL, etc)

  • Working knowledge of Javascript frameworks (JQuery, AngularJS, React, etc)

  • Experience with process management and process change implementation

  • Some experience programming in .Net required. Programming is not required for this position, but relevant technical knowledge is important for providing leadership and guidance to team

  • Experience with a micro-services architecture and cloud based applications
