Departmental Overview
The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) includes eight departments and functions that directly report to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (AVC-IT & CIO). These reporting units include more than 330 staff and 30 student employees. The AVC-IT & CIO directly manages an operating budget of approximately $55 million which includes about $35 million of recharge revenue, and $1-2 million in grants and contracts.
This position is part of Infrastructure Services. The Microsoft Security Architect leads the design and development of innovative security architectures for protecting data deployed on supported Microsoft operating systems. This position will directly contribute to the overall Active Directory architecture and lead the security vision and strategy around Microsoft-based applications across all types including Infrastructure, Platform, and Software as a Service (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS). The Microsoft Security Architect will serve as the central point of contact for Enterprise Security for other Technology teams within the University for all matters related to Microsoft security.
Responsibilities
• Collaborates with Information Security and Policy (ISP) to determine appropriate security policy in regards to Windows operating systems. Partners with the Platforms and Endpoint Operations and Services (EOS) teams to implement and ensure compliance with policy.
• Performs the most complex and advanced techniques to work on issues that impact design of future concepts in regards to Active Directory and other Microsoft products.
• Serves as the campus subject matter expert and provides consultation to Information System and Technology (IST) and campus leadership.
• Works independently developing the most advanced concepts and strategies. in methods and best practices to secure microsoft products
• Designs and implements the most complex security architecture and controls to prevent hackers from infiltrating campus systems and breaching sensitive/protected information.
• Independently performs the most complex feasibility and Security analysis on potential future projects to management.
• Serves as a key Advisor on the selection of major and critical technological purchases impacting all aspects of the campus enterprise architecture.
Required Qualifications
• Have expertise relating to the design and development of information technology architectures across the organization
• 9+ years production Microsoft server administration experience
• 9+ years of experience in an Active Directory environment with 5+ years of Active Directory design and deployment
• 5+ years of experience on Microsoft authentication/authorization models and impact on performance, scalability, and security
• 5+ years of experience troubleshooting complex systems issues in a Microsoft infrastructure integrated with multi-vendor solutions
• Expert knowledge of Windows vulnerabilities and common exploits
• Experiences in implementation of best practices on supported Windows operating systems
• Familiarity with Network Security Fundamentals
• Familiarity with Privilege Escalation Opportunities
• Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner
• Able to translate business needs into long-term architecture solutions
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; frequent interface with senior management
• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Preferred Qualifications
• CISSP: Certified Information Systems Security Professional
• Knowledge of campus-wide processes and procedures and ability to collaborate with non-technical personnel at all levels in the organization
