The Comcast dx team drives the big data ecosystem by defining and executing on data strategy that empowers teams to store, process, and access data at-scale. The Solution Engineer plays a critical role in bridging the data platforms with customers throughout the company. As a Solution Engineer, you keep apprised of the latest platform and industry technologies, apply them to customer use cases, and ensure that accessing and understanding Comcast data is simple. To do so, you must think as both a data scientist and a data engineer. You dive into any technology, emerging or established, in order to evaluate it for your customers.

Collaboration with Solution Managers, Product Managers, Architects, Developers, and Site Reliability Engineers is foundational to this role. Your written and oral communication skills are paramount. Stakeholders throughout the company consider you a go-to person for platform information, advice, and insight. You have a deep understanding of software and cloud principles, and it shows through your work. You enthusiastically write up all of your findings and share them with the wider company through Confluence, Github, and the web portal. You contribute directly to the product roadmap by bringing product deficiencies and pain points to the product team's attention. Fundamentally, you're excited about big data and the opportunities it brings to Comcast.

Core responsibilities:

-Requirements gathering for projects across all business domains.

-Data discovery on each of the dx big data platforms.

-Solution architecture, design, documentation, review, and onboarding support.

-Software development for experimentation, test, and POCs as-needed.

-Participation in project scoping and at all levels of execution.

-Set the tone and pace for work performance within project groups and among the junior engineering staff.

-Recommend resource allocations to management.

-Identify new financial and operational opportunities across the data and analysis ecosystem.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

-Author engineering analyses, data discovery analyses, data pipeline descriptions, HOWTOs, data tips, and onboarding SMOPs.

-Develop basic ETLs and POCs in Databricks, AWS, and/or OpenStack.

-Develop basic queries in SQL.

-Synthesize complex data from multiple disparate sources into coherent data sets, and present them to execution teams.

-Proven ability to quickly locate and analyze extremely large volumes of data.

Qualifications:

-8+ years' experience in a technology-focused organization working with large data sets, with demonstrated quantitative and analytical skill sets.

-Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.

-Prior experience in a software development or systems engineering role.

-Demonstrated experience defining, documenting, and presenting requirements.

-Journeyman-level proficiency with SQL, Linux, Bash, and Git.

-Exposure to Spark, Scala, Databricks, AWS, Kafka, Avro, and/or Hadoop is a huge plus.

-Expert-level proficiency with an industry-standard diagramming tool, such as Visio, OmniGraffle, or Gliffy.

-Proficient with JIRA, Confluence, and Github.

-Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is a huge plus.

-Demonstrated ability to work effectively with upper management, technical audiences, and non-technical audiences.

-Ability to build strong collaborative relationships across the enterprise.

-Proficient with Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel.

-Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance.

-Occasional travel may be required.
